Sharon Dudley-Brown, PhD, FNP-BC, FAAN, FAANP, is an accomplished nurse practitioner, educator, and internationally recognized leader in gastroenterology nursing. She holds a faculty appointment in the School of Medicine at Johns Hopkins University and is a Professor in the School of Nursing at the University of Delaware, where she teaches in the Doctor of Nursing Practice program. With more than 30 years of experience as a family nurse practitioner, she has practiced in primary care, urgent care, and gastroenterology. In her current role within the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Johns Hopkins, she independently manages patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and collaborates with physicians in the IBD center. She received the Miller-Coulson Clinical Excellence Award in 2017 and is a Fellow of both the American Academy of Nursing and the American Association of Nurse Practitioners. Dr. Dudley-Brown is widely respected for her contributions to nursing education and gastroenterology. She served as a visiting professor and consultant in New Zealand, sharing her expertise in both fields. She has authored numerous publications and presented nationally and internationally on IBD, gastroenterology, and nursing practice. She is also the co-editor of Translation of Evidence into Nursing and Health Care, now in its fourth edition. In addition, she holds leadership roles in several organizations, including the Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation, the Society of Gastrointestinal Nurses and Associates, and the American Gastroenterological Association. She is also a founding executive committee member of Gastroenterology and Hepatology Advanced Practice Providers (GHAPP), an organization dedicated to advancing education for nurse practitioners and physician assistants in gastroenterology and hepatology.
